Real Radio - Major Transmission Router Upgrade

August 2006

Audionics supplied transmission routers for Real Radio regional stations in Yorkshire and Scotland, when they first went on air in 2001. Now as part of a major reorganisation of their DAB network, Audionics have supplied new custom designed routers for both sites.

Working in close association with Technical Director, Gary Bridge, the new system was designed to meet several key criteria including, ease of use by non technical staff, re-use of existing electronics wherever possible and a logic interface to enable remote control and integration with their RCS Master Control automation system.

Each output has a sixteen input mixing router card enabling studios, split ad playout machines, incoming network feeds, local and national news sources to be mixed as required for each transmitter feed.

Manual operation is provided by studio control panels, with simple indication of the router status.

Logic interfaces allow the automation system to fire a salvo of crosspoints, these routing scenarios are held in a central memory, which can be easily updated as station programming requirements change.
